Anthony M. Massaro Ormond Beach, FL, age 77 was called home on January 7, 2022 after a long battle with heart disease. He is the son of the late Anthony and Alice (Monacelli) Massaro.
Tony followed in his father’s footsteps and went into the Army from 1967-1970 during the Vietnam war. He earned the Army Commendation Medal as well as several awards given during his service.
Tony is known locally as a business owner and was an active part of the revitalization of downtown Albion in the 1980’s. He owned and operated Hair Fantasy, Shining Tanning Salon, Slender Images all three were located in Albion and Medina. He had a passion for hair and regularly was trying out new cuts and color techniques on his wife Cathy. Tony also owned Your Video, having locations in Albion, Medina, Lyndonville and Middleport. His businesses were ahead of its times in most cases. Hair Fantasy was the first licensed unisex salon in Orleans County and he opened the first tanning salon in the county as well. During his time as a hair dresser, he worked with the BOCES cosmetology and would hire graduates of the program and mentor them into professionals many of whom opened their own businesses after his retirement. Tony was a very generous and giving man. He would do anything for anyone and was always giving back to his community.
After transitioning into semi-retirement, he decided to pursue getting his motorcycle license and being driven to be the first in many things this continued into this new area. He decided to build a totally custom bike from the ground up. This creation was named Fire Wind he merged two of natures powerful forces into his bike. While building this bike he turned many things upside down as far as what was. After displaying his bike at the Rat’s hole Custom Bike Shows in 1997; he won an all expense paid trip to Essen Germany to show his bike on a worldwide stage. This would start a whole new passion he eventually became the Director of Judges for Rat’s Hole. Judging bikes at the Dayton Bike week and out in South Dakota for the Rat’s hole organization. He had friends that he would speak to regularly in Germany as well around the world after meeting them in Germany. He enjoyed traveling and continued work as Director of Judges right up until the Daytona Bike Week last spring.
In addition to his parents Anthony was predeceased by his wife Cathy (Cusimano) Massaro in 2015 and his custom bike builder friend Cryil Huze. He is survived by his sons Michael of Albion and Marc Massaro of Medina/FL as well as his grandson Peter Massaro of Albion. His brother John (Jane) Massaro of Florida. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Close friends Brenda and Jack Deagazio as well as friends in countless number and fellow bike enthusiasts.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 W. Ave. Albion, on Sunday January 16th 1-4pm. His Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 9:00am at Holy Family Parish with Military Honors to follow. Private burial will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
