Dennis J. Sheelar

Dennis J. Sheelar, age 93, died October 10, 2021 in his home following a short illness. He was born December 6, 1927 in Barre Center to Dennis F. and Mary (Bloom) Sheelar and was a life-long resident of this area. Dennis was a United States Army Veteran of WWII, ‘The Big Red One’, and a former member of St. Stephen’s R.C. Church. He was a former member of the Medina Moose, a retiree of Harrison Radiator and for many years, owned and enjoyed Harness Racing Horses.

Mr. Sheelar was predeceased by his brother Adam Sheelar and sisters: Katherine Carpenter and Margaret Atwell.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Janice, his daughter: Sharon Lee Sheelar of Middleport, his grandson: Patrick Sheelar of Middleport. Dennis’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to special friends: Stephane Mainville, Sam Yacono and Clifford “Pete” Herriven.

There will be no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service, Friday October 22nd at 11 a.m. in Mt. Albion Veteran Companion Section where Military Honors will be conducted. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY, 14094 or a Charity of your Choice.

Dennis’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home of Middleport.
