Donald J. Canaway

(Brockport) Donald J. Canaway, age 82, died February 22, 2023 in the Mt. Carmel House following a lengthy illness. He was born July 13, 1940 in LeRoy, NY to Howard and Marguerite (Cosier) Canaway and had lived in this area most of his life. Don was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Kendall, the Kendall Fire Department, the St. Paul Blvd. Fire Department, and the Western New York Volunteer Firemans’ Association. He served as a WNY Drill Team Tournament Official, was a former volunteer for Hospice of Orleans and enjoyed volunteering for all kinds of community groups and events. Mr. Canaway was predeceased by a son: Richard Bills, a brother Howard, and a sister Elaine. He is survived by his wife of 22 years Brenda, his children: Paul Canaway of Rochester, Jeffrey (Laurie) Bills of NC, Christopher (Meghan) Bills of W. Irondequoit, Corinne (Todd) Nelson of Chili, Daniel (Kelly Corber) Bills of Attica, Donald (Heather Summers) Bills of Kendall, Kelly of Kendall, his siblings: David, Ronald, Kenneth, Doris as well as several grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. There will be no calling hours and a Celebration of Don’s life will he announced and held at a later date with interment to take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Carmel House, 288 Frisbee Hill Rd., Hilton, NY, 14468. Don’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home of Holley.
