Donald Benjamin Pohl, a longtime resident of Newfane, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on June 29, 1932, in Lockport, NY, Donald lived a life rich in love, service, and dedication to his family and community.
Donald was a graduate of DeSales Catholic School in Lockport, NY. Following his education, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, an experience that instilled in him values of resilience and commitment that he carried throughout his life.
Upon returning home, Donald dedicated many years as a production worker with GM Harrison Radiator in Lockport, forging lasting friendships and contributing to the community's industrial fabric. Outside of his professional life, Donald was a member of St. Brendan's on the Lake R.C. Church in Newfane, where he actively participated in the church community and made numerous cherished friends.
Donald enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, among them playing cards with friends, hunting, and tending to his farm. He was particularly proud of his farming endeavors, raising over 20 head of cattle and diligently growing hay to feed them. These activities brought him immense joy and satisfaction.
Above all, Donald's greatest pride was his family. He raised six children with love and dedication, instilling in them the virtues of kindness and hard work. He is survived by his daughters Dyann (Daniel) Moran of Gasport, NY, Cyndia Sandolfini, and Ava Jeanine (Robert) Sandolfini; his son Benjamin Pohl; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Clare Pohl, his beloved wife Onalee, his children Gerald Pohl and Aleta Sandolfini, and his sister Madelyn Bennett.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the calling hours at the Sherrie Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St., Gasport, NY, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Brendan on the Lake R.C. Church, 3433 Ewings Road, Newfane, NY, Thursday November 6, 2025 at 12:00 pm, with burial to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Barker.
