Gail P. Smith, age 84, died peacefully December 3, 2025 while under the care of Hospice of Orleans. She was born May 26, 1941 in Perry to Rufus and Mable (Dunbar) Proper and had lived in this area most of her life.
Gail worked for over 20 years at the Orleans County Nursing Home primarily as a Nursing Assistant. She enjoyed her flower gardens, and was a devoted caregiver to her son Duane who has Down's Syndrome. Gail was a very social person and enjoyed visiting with her countless friends right up to the very end. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband Howard, her daughter Candice Turner, her grandchildren: Jennifer Martin and Michael Turner, and her siblings: Jack and Janice Proper and Lois Hurlburt.
She is survived by her sons: Duane Smith, Eric (Karen) Turner, Randy Turner, Sam Turner, her daughters: Luann (Jeff) Young, Lisa Smith, Elizabeth (Daniel) Bezon, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two dear friends: Dee Lucas and Lynn Eckard.
There will be no calling hours and a private service and burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice of Orleans, 14080 Rt. 31, Albion, NY, 14411 or the Shiloh Judgement-Free Church, 3286 Crandall Rd., Albion, NY, 14411.
Gail's arrangements have been entrusted to the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home of Albion.
