Albion: George R. “Boppa” Bensley, age 86, passed away at the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia on October 14, 2022. He was born June 18, 1936 in Middleport to the late Gerald and Ruth (Davey) Bensley.
George honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960. He was the past commander and very active in the Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at the farm that he called “Ponderosa”. George worked as a foreman at Rochester Products before he retired in 1991.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his 1st wife, Arlene (Dujenski) Bensley, and 2nd wife, Joyce Bensley,
George is survived by his children, Gerry (Lynn) Bensley, Sandra (Teresa Irizarry) Bensley, Tammy (Arnie) Allen, grandchildren, Ashley Bensley, Madeline Peglow, Shelly Siddons, 4 great grandchildren, step-sons, Steven and Scott Gaylord as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Mt. Albion Cemetery (Single Veterans Section) on Friday, October 21st at 11:00am.
Memorial contributions in George’s name may be made to the NYS Veterans Home 220 Richmond Ave. Batavia, NY 14020.
