James E. Richardson, Sr. passed peacefully into the Lord’s arms on October 24, 2025.
Jim was a highly skilled heavy equipment mechanic for many years, until he answered a late-in- life calling to pastorship. After completing his studies at Roberts Wesleyan College, he sheparded his much-loved congregation at the Morton Baptist Church for nearly twenty years. Sharing the Gospel and ministering to others were Jim’s humble passions. He was a prolific writer, a skilled hunter, and a great storyteller. He understood that words do not have to be loud to be powerful.
Born near Lansing, Michigan, and after living in several areas, he and his dear wife, Alice (Ashbery) of more than sixty years, made their home in Holley, and together raised three sons – James (Amy), Christopher, and Charles. Jim delighted in his grandchildren – Ethan (Lydia) Richardson, Molly (Thomas) Sudore, Lee Richardson, and Katie (Connor) Henion, and his great-granddaughters Rebekah and Rose. He also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews, his sister, Arlene, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Amy Ashbery, sister-in-law Marilyn Ashbery, countless friends, and was honored to be called “Grandpa” by several special others.
Jim’s legacy is one of meeting people where they are with humility, great humor, authenticity, and love, and he will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at Morton Baptist Church on November 8, 2025, at noon, preceded by calling hours from 10:00 to 11:30. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to CareNet of Greater Orleans.
Jim's arrangements have been entrusted to Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home 16650 State Route 31, Holley.
