Jean M. Harvey (nee MacDonald), formerly of Lockport, passed away on December 5, 2025, at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw, NY, where she had been a resident since 2021. Born July 9, 1929, in Buffalo, NY, Jean was a graduate of Bennett H.S. and North Park Business School in Buffalo. As a young woman, she was a member of the Organization of Triangles and The Order of the Amaranth.
Jean's secretarial career began at Klepfer Bros. Buick in Buffalo. After marrying, she spent three years living in England during her husband's deployment during the Korean War, having their first child at the USAF hospital there. Upon returning to Buffalo she joined Parkside Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school and serving on the altar committee. Jean was a homemaker until her children were full-time students, then worked at Kenmore Moving & Storage and Manhart Auto Collision Surveys in Tonawanda.
After relocating to Lockport in 1982, Jean became a member of the former Wright's Corners Presbyterian Church, serving as secretary and elder. Upon the death of her husband in 1995, she retired from the Muscato, DiMillo & Vona law firm. Jean attended the First Baptist Church of Newfane and was a member of the Newfane Golden Agers.
From a long line of Scottish Canadian Great Lakes mariners and proud of her heritage, Jean's greatest joy was being at the lake, starting as a child, and later renting a Canadian cottage on Lake Erie with her family for many years.
With a strong love of life, she was always an eager participant in any social engagement. She enjoyed playing the organ and boating with her husband and friends, taking part in church events, getting together with friends or family for lunch or, in her later years, simply sitting on her patio with her dog visiting with neighbors. She had an enormous love of dogs, nearly always having had (at least) one since childhood. At the nursing facility - despite disliking rules of any kind – she found new friends and greatly enjoyed the activities and playing cards.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents William F. and M.E. Berenice (Gray) MacDonald, beloved husband Donald N. Harvey, sister Ruth M. (late Robert A.) Grieser, and grandson Carl W. Swain. She is survived by daughters Donna (Patrick) Swain of Derby, Debra Harvey (David Bruggman) of Attica and Dawn Murphy of Lockport, grandchildren Karen and Michael Swain, Blake and Daniel Murphy, great-granddaughter Melissa Dobmeier, and several nieces and nephews.
