Jennifer Holway Mahoney of Canandaigua, NY, passed away August 21, 2024, following a short illness. She was born January 2, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Richard Holway, Capt. USN, and Loris Chilwell Holway.
Jennifer was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Tom Mahoney, who passed away March 4, 2023.
She is survived by her sisters, Caroline Holway, of Honolulu, HI, and Amy Ingram of Dannevirke, New Zealand. She is also survived by her niece and nephew, Denver and Bradley Ingram; niece, Cristine (York) Andrade and their daughter, Tori; sister-in-law, Marnie Mahoney, of Canandaigua; cousin, Samuel (Paula) Martillotta of Chardon, OH, and their children, Alexandra (William) Nachman; Samuel Jr. (Julia), Audrey, and John (Olivia) Martillotta.
She also was predeceased by her sister, Ann (James Stephenson) Holway of New Zealand, and cousin, Susan Martillotta; and is also survived by Susan’s children, Samantha Martillotta and Daniel (Colleen) Cohen.
Jenny earned her B.S. in Accounting at George Mason University and became a CPA thereafter, enjoying a successful career as an accountant in Virginia. She and Tom spent their early marriage in Honolulu before moving to suburban Washington, D.C., where they lived for many years prior to their eventual moves to homes in Canandaigua and Auckland, NZ. Jenny and Tom’s greatest loves were for each other and for their families in the USA and New Zealand.
Jenny loved to prepare sumptuous meals and to entertain family and friends in their home. Jenny’s loves also included yachting off the coasts of New Zealand and Hawaii, taking long walks and embracing the beauty of nature and in particular, birds; swimming; reading; travel; and cooking.
Jenny and Tom traveled extensively throughout Australasia and Europe, but often returned to the United States to visit Tom’s family and their many friends including her best friend from childhood continuing throughout their lives, Sally Gile, and Jenny and Tom’s dear friends Rick Knapp and Ellen Mattingly; David and Karen Pincus; and Stephen Irmo and Susan Yackee.
Jenny’s family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church of Albion, 29 East State Street, Albion, NY 14411 on Thursday, October 17, from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a memorial service to celebrate Jenny’s life at 11a.m. and interment at Mount Albion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Jenny’s family respectfully suggests that memorial contributions in Jenny’s name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Albion (address above) or to M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 350 Parrish Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
