John E Morton

June 26, 1937 — October 15, 2026

Bellevue

John E. Morton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and entered eternal rest in Heaven with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born to Emma Zittlaw Morton and Herbert Morton, John grew up in Eagle Harbor, NY.

John was always a hard worker and a handyman, helping others even during his childhood years when he made sure that his family and his neighbors had plenty of firewood, and that the lawns were mowed. He graduated from Albion High School in 1956. Soon after, John joined the United States Air Force where he was introduced to the field of electronics, which set him on a career path that led him on a lifetime of adventures.

While stationed in North Dakota, John met Ann Marie Eastvold Morton. They married in 1961. They had three children together. After the Air Force, John went on to work for Rockwell Collins Radio in Iowa, before moving the family to Texas, where he excelled in both performance and innovation. John traveled the world with his career, including moving his family of five to Copenhagen, Denmark for three years, and then back to Texas.

In 1989 he married Patricia Ann (Fraser, Nowack) Morton, and they lived in North Carolina after retirement. They attended Cornerstone Presbyterian Church where John took on the challenge of rebuilding the old tobacco barn on the Church grounds. He rebuilt it, painted it red, and the Church put a big sign across the front naming it “John Morton Barn”.

John was very involved with Disaster Relief Teams while in North Carolina. After devastating storms, including hurricane Katrina, he traveled to affected areas, cutting and clearing the trees that had been damaged. We’re sure this talent carried over from his childhood, cutting firewood for everyone.

After his wife Pat passed away, he moved back to Texas to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

John loved being outdoors and always had to stay busy doing something. He lived a long and very blessed life.

John is survived by his first wife, Ann Marie Morton; two sons, Timothy J. Morton (wife Lisa), Mark O. Morton; daughter, Loriann Johnson (husband Robert); his grandchildren and great grandchildren; Sisters Carol Ergott, Cheryl Babcock (husband Jesse), brother Edgar “Ed” Morton (wife Evie); and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving him are stepchildren, Jeannine Nowack; Steven Nowack and Craig Nowack.

John was also preceded in death by brother n law, Delvin Ergott.
