Joseph P. Harrington, age 56, of Middleport, NY passed away suddenly on Friday, November 21, 2025, following a lifelong struggle with addiction and mental illness.

Born February 12, 1969 in Cheektowaga, NY, he was a son of John F. Harrington and the late Susan E. (Kelley) Harrington. Joe was a graduate of Royalton-Hartland High School, Class of 1988. Later in life he decided to further his education, earning a Bachelor of Psychology from the SUNY University at Buffalo. On July 11, 2009, he married the former Rachel E. Cash and the couple lived in the Middleport area ever since. Joe was currently enrolled at Niagara County Community College and was one month away from earning his CASAC certification (Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor). Joe loved music and attending live concerts. He also enjoyed reading and bird watching. His family and friends will miss him deeply, but are consoled that he is at peace.

Joe was predeceased by his mother, Susan Harrington.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rachel Harrington; father, John Harrington; siblings, Charles Harrington, James (Linda) Harrington, John Harrington, Jr. and Julie Winner; also several nieces and nephews.

Per Joe’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. The family appreciates any memorial donations in remembrance of Joe being made to the Mental Health Association of Niagara County at www.mhanc.com. Arrangements are in the care of Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport.
