Katherine M. Lange, of Lockport, NY, passed away on December 24, 2025, under the care of Hospice Buffalo at Beechwood Continuing Care in Getzville.
Born July 12, 1933 in Lockport, Kay was a daughter of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Ryan) MacDonald. She was a graduate of Saint Joseph’s Academy, Class of 1951 and Saint Joseph’s Secretarial Institute the following year. She began her working career at the Niagara Cooperative Extension in the Home Department until 1957, when she chose to be a full-time mom. Her family considered her to be a homemaker extraordinaire. Kay was also a longtime parishioner of the First English Lutheran Church in Lockport.
After 23 years at home, Kay returned to work as a secretary at Rush-Henrietta Senior High School. In the early 80s, her husband’s job as vocational counselor at the VA found them relocating to Manlius, NY. There she became the administrative assistant to the Principal of Fayetteville-Manlius High School, until her retirement in 1996. John and Katherine returned to their hometown of Lockport in 2004 to be closer to their family.
In addition to her parents, Katherine was predeceased by her beloved husband, John W. Lange in 2007; her in-laws, Rev. Ivan and Elva Lange; siblings, Charles (Betty) MacDonald, Robert MacDonald, Helen (John) Coleman, Carol (Bill) Davin; and her son, Thomas Ivan Lange.
She is survived by her children, David Lange, Debra (Thomas) Walker, Kristen Clark, and Steven Lange (Beth Huneke); daughter-in-law, Eileen Lange; her “grandgirls”, Alison (Brian) Sullivan, Melissa (David) Barth, Jessica (Jeffrey) Grant, Jenna (Jason) Walling, Lauren (Paul) Nielsen, and Madeline (Danielle) Clark; proud GiGi to eight great-grands; siblings, Dennis (Roberta) MacDonald, Dawn MacDonald, and Rita (Thomas) Heary; and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the kind caregivers at Beechwood and Hospice Buffalo.
Per Katherine’s wishes, a private memorial service was held. Interment in Cold Springs Cemetery.
