(Lockport, NY/Virginia Beach, VA) With heavy hearts, the family of Kenneth Lee Wurster, age 53, announce his passing on February 8, 2025, following a short illness. He was born April 22, 1971, in Kenmore, NY to Terry and Brenda Wurster.
Ken was loved by all who knew him. He was a beloved son and the older brother who always brought the family together. Ken was about the best uncle any nephew could ask for, always ready for fun and games when he was with them. He had a smile and even demeanor that could calm even the roughest seas for his family, friends and shipmates. His service in the US Navy touched many lives during his 20 years of service, including while on assignment aboard the USS Cole, USS Bush and USS Reagan, to name a few. After retiring from the Navy, his dedication to service of his country continued as a civilian, first as a supervisor in the shipyards of Norfolk, VA and later at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa, NY. His love for Buffalo sports never wavered and he proudly supported the Bills and Sabres season to season. When he wasn’t serving his country and mentoring his co-workers, you could always find Ken doing the things he loved in nature- hiking, fishing, paddling and camping with his family and Kaden (his four-legged best friend), especially along the Erie Canal, in the Alabama Swamps and up north in the Adirondack Mountains. While we will miss his footsteps along side us, we know his spirit will surround us whenever we are doing the things he loved in life- watching the game, paddling a quiet lake, walking in the woods or just checking the weather. He is forever in the stars above and the world around us.
He is survived by his wife Melissa; his parents Terry and Brenda; his sister Sherry (John) Waszak; his brother Kevin (Christen) Wurster; his beloved nephews Nico, Raines, Jackson, Nolan, Lochlan as well as several aunts, uncles and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Sherrie Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St., Gasport, NY on Friday May 2nd 11:00am-1:00pm followed by his Graveside Service at Royalton Mountain Ridge Cemetery at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, https://support.nmcrs.org/a/homepage .
