Laurene "Laurie" B. Hatch, age 76, of Albion, passed away on February 8, 2026 surrounded by her family and loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 30, 1949, in Albion, she was the daughter of the late Howard E. and Elizabeth M. (Wells) Babcock. Laurie graduated from Albion High School, Class of 1967 and furthered her education at Alfred State College where she earned her Associate's Degree in 1969. Shortly after her college graduation, Laurie married her late husband, Robert Hatch on August 9, 1969. Laurie worked as a Medical Transcriptionist at the former Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport for over 40 years.
Aside from her passion for her career, Laurie had many talents and hobbies. She will be lovingly remembered for her seamstress skills, including quilting and needlework, which she learned from her mother who handcrafted high quality Santa suits. Laurie used this skill to create many things for her loved ones, most notably the quilts she stitched with love for all of her grandchildren. She also had talents in the construction field and would help her life partner Jim with their small business. Laurie also loved bowling and enjoying the outdoors whether it be camping, tending to her vegetable garden or spending time at her cottage in the Thousand Islands. She was an active member of her church, the Gains Congregational United Church of Christ, where she acted as treasurer for many years. Laurie was also a member of Busy Buddies and Arnold Gregory Twig in the Sycamore group.
In addition to her parents, Laurie was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 2012.
Laurie is survived by her two daughters, Teresa (Daniel) Heuer and Patricia (Douglas) Burdick Jr.; grandchildren, Nicholas Burdick (Sarah), Ashley (Amanda) Delmage, Tyler Burdick (Jennifer) and Kristina Burdick (Kyle); life partner, Jim Appleby; beloved cat, Boots; brothers-in-law, Dan (Lin) Hatch and George Irvine; nieces, Karen (Ralph), Valerie; nephew Danny (Kathy) as well as several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 12 from 4-7 PM at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home, 21 W. Ave., Albion. Laurie's funeral service will be held the following day, Friday, February 13 at 11 AM at the Gaines Congregational United Church of Christ, 14023 Ridge Rd W, Eagle Harbor, NY 14411. Interment will be in Waterport Cemetery on Eagle Harbor - Waterport Road. Memorial donations in Laurie's name can be made to the Gaines Congregational United Church of Christ at the above address.
