Richard N. Anderson

Waterport: Richard N. Anderson, age 84, passed away October 3, 2022. He was born November 25, 1937 in Albion to the late Theodore and Jean (Turner) Anderson, Sr.

Richard served in the U.S. Airforce from 1955-1963. Richard was an active member of the Albion First Presbyterian Church and influential in the reconstruction of the Oak Orchard Lighthouse. He also served on the board of the Oak Orchard Lighthouse Association and enjoyed being a docent at the lighthouse, educating people of the history of the area and the lighthouse.

He worked for over 33 years as a Science Teacher at Spencerport Central Schools where he was a well respected and loved educator. While there, he served as a leader of the Teachers Association, the Teachers Union, the Science Teachers Association of NYS and help establish Spencerport FCU. Richard and his friend Ron established Stony Point Studios in Spencerport, providing a variety of photographic services. Richard was a proud Democrat who ran for U.S. Congress in 1969 and actively campaigned in support of John and Robert Kennedy.

When Donna and Richard would winter in Florida, he was very active as a board member of the Sugar Creek Country Club & Villas. He enjoyed playing guitar and leading his band, “The Electric Corn” and singing at his church. Living in the Oak Orchard on the Lake neighborhood, Richard would print a yearly telephone directory for all the neighbors up at the lake and was known as the unofficial historian. Richard was proud to be an Albion Alumni, to be a part of his hometown and always gave back whenever he could, whether it be his time or financially.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Theodore N. Anderson, Jr., sisters-in-law, Gloria Allen and Corrinne Crocker.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Donna, daughter, Deborah (Kevin) Elkins, their daughter, Elizabeth Elkins, daughter, Dawn (Gregg) Squicciarini, and their children, Michelle (Denisolt) Squicciarini-Beterbiyev, Abigail Squicciarini, Jacob Squicciarini, Claire Squicciarini, sister, Linda (Paul) Hyland, sister-in-law, Sharon Anderson, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Richard’s family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home 21 West Ave. Albion, NY 14411 on Monday, October 10th from 4:00-7:00. His Memorial service will be held at the Albion First Presbyterian Church, 29 East State St. Albion, NY 14411 on October 11th at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to the Oak Orchard Lighthouse Museum or Albion First Presbyterian Church.
