Brockport, NY: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard A. Banks, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, on Sunday, May 24th, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born on January 20, 1942, Richard was the cherished son of the late Robert Banks Sr. and Bobbie (Ricks) Banks. He was raised in Lyons, Georgia, where he graduated from Lyons Industrial High School in the class of 1961. Richard moved to Brockport, NY, where he built a rewarding career as a supervisor at A&P, becoming a respected member of the local community. Richard was a longtime active member of Christian Center Church in Brockport NY. He was an integral part of the renovation of the new church on King St.

In addition to his professional life, Richard was widely known for his elegant and stylish appearance and a deep passion for music and gardening. He found joy in fishing and was always engaged in creative projects—constantly tinkering and staying active. His life was a testament to the beauty of humility and the joy found in life's simple pleasures.

Richard was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Peggy (Holloway) Banks, his siblings Billy Eugene Banks, Troy Banks, Ruth Banks Crawford as well as several cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by his devoted sister, Doris L. (Willie) Wilson of Texas; his niece, Tanisha Wilson; his nephew, Shrone Wilson, both of TX., and his dear brother, Robert Banks Jr. of Lyons, GA. Richard will be deeply missed by his many dear friends from his church family, especially by his close friends Kim and Mike Morich, in-laws, and a host of other relatives and family members who loved him dearly.

A Celebration of Richard’s Life and Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the Christian Center Church, located at 20 King St., Brockport, NY 14420. Following the service, Richard will be laid to rest in Garland Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, located at 16650 State Route 31, Holley, NY 14470.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Richard’s memory to Mt. Carmel House, 288 Frisbee Hill Road, Hilton, NY 14468, honoring his spirit of generosity and kindness.
