Richard C. "Rit" Downey, age 89, died August 10, 2026 in Medina Memorial Hospital. He was born May 12, 1936 in Albion to Charles and Katherine (Haight) Downey and had lived in Holley all of his life.
Rit was a Manager at the 3M Plant in Rochester, was a Real Estate Agent for several years, and enjoyed going to Clayton in the Thousand Islands where he indulged in the two passion he enjoyed the most; boating and fishing. Mr. Downey was predeceased by his parents, a sister Sybil Eighmey and a son Charles Downey.
He is survived by his daughter: Denise Johnstone of Holley, his grandsons: Ryan (Jamie) Johnstone, Joel (Anna) Johnstone, his grand daughter: Kelsie (Joshua) Vogt and 2 great grandchildren: Miles Stone, Wesley Vogt and two nieces: Linda and Julie.
There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any AA Chapter in your area or the Holley Fire Dept., 7 Thomas Street, Holley, NY, 14470. Rit's arrangements have been entrusted to the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home of Holley.
