What is a Green Burial?
Green burial—also known as natural burial—is an ecologically responsible approach to death care designed to minimize environmental impact and preserve local land.
Key elements of our Green Burial Council-aligned services include:
- No Toxic Chemical Embalming: We accommodate natural care, sanitation, preservation, and viewing without requiring chemical embalming fluids when it is not desired.
- Biodegradable Caskets & Shrouds: Loved ones are placed in caskets, shrouds, or woven containers crafted exclusively from natural, fully biodegradable materials.
- No Outer Burial Containers: Outer burial containers, concrete vaults, or metal grave liners are omitted to permit natural return to the soil.
- Land Conservation: Services are conducted at approved green cemetery grounds, natural preserves, or certified sections of conventional cemeteries.

Frequently Asked Questions About Green Burial
Is embalming required by law?
No. In state and local regulations, embalming is not required by law. We provide alternative methods for sanitation, preservation, and visitation so you can honor your loved one naturally without embalming. However, we do have green burial approved chemicals for embalming.
Can we still hold a viewing or service with a green burial?
Yes. Choosing a green burial does not mean giving up the opportunity to gather and pay respects. We assist families in arranging viewings, home vigils, chapel services, and graveside memorial ceremonies tailored to your wishes.
Where can a green burial take place in Western New York?
Green burials can take place in designated natural burial grounds, certified sections of conventional cemeteries that allow vaultless, natural interments, or on qualifying private property in compliance with local laws. Our team will help locate an appropriate cemetery location near you.
